The Chinese University Press was established as the publishing house of The Chinese University of Hong Kong. It is a non- profit organization devoted to the advancement, preservation and dissemination of knowledge, as well as the promotion of multi- cultural academic exchanges.
The Press publishes more than fifty titles per year and carries well over 1,300 titles on its backlist. It is an established publisher of many scholarly works on China and Hong Kong studies and on Chinese culture. We have published works by many world-renowned scholars, for example Ezra F. Vogel, Derk Bodde, Hsu Cho-yun and Stuart R. Schram, among others.
In recent years, the Press has broadened its scope to include titles on management, education, the social sciences, the natural sciences and medicine, in line with the evolution of our University. Since we have also added titles of general and educational interest. The Press today not only publishes academic books and journals that are distributed worldwide, but it also commissions general titles for the reading public in Hong Kong. The Press has now further expanded its publishing programme to include electronic publications.
To strengthen our academic links and to enhance the visibility of our publications on the international stage, the Press has co- published titles with the world’s most influential academic publishers, universities and academic institutions. It has also entered into joint publication arrangements with commercial publishers in the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, Germany, Japan, Malaysia, the Netherlands, Singapore, Taiwan, and others.
